About
the story behind…
One of my earliest memories is about textiles. I have been surrounded by textiles my whole life! My father was a textile designer, drawing intricate patterns by hand, right at our kitchen table. As a little girl, I was captivated by the beautiful process. It was no surprise I became a textile engineer.
My work story begins in the world of fashion, where I took on several rolls. I missed a certain amount of creativity in my profession. It was time for a change. I studied in Amsterdam at the Artemis Academy, following Interior Styling & Design. Meanwhile I started working as a freelance designer for magazines.
When I completed my studies, I found a job as a carpet designer. For more than 10 years I developed and designed handmade rugs and carpets for 5* hotels, high end residential projects and yachts, worldwide. Having the experience and knowledge of all sorts of qualities and design possibilities, I started to travel as a Design Consultant. I enjoyed my journeys to the most wonderful cities in the world, such as Paris, London, Madrid, Milan, New York and St Petersburg. I was able to share my experience, knowledge and advice with wonderful creative people in the hospitality industry.
When that chapter came to an end, I realized I truly loved the work I had done and all I had learned so far. Now I wanted to be of value in a different way and somehow contribute to the world we live in. However, I had to keep in mind my heart was still beating for textiles! It was then that FeelGoodFabrics was born; I wish to repurpose the enormous amounts of beautiful leftover fabrics that are spread all over the world; these high quality fabrics remain after production of fashion or interior products, simply because the color did not perfectly match the sample, or because they were ‘over produced’. That’s why I call them FeelGood Fabrics (with FG also being my initials…Femke Goossens is my name!)
By buying these and turning them into nice interior and daily products, we can enjoy beautiful textiles, without having to use natures resources to produce new fabrics. And a wonderful side effect: since I overall buy mostly smaller batches of fabric…you are guaranteed with exclusive products as well!
Let us make the world even more beautiful with what’s already there…
